Meet Dr. Jorge Malouf
Dr. Jorge Malouf
Dr. Jorge Malouf is a first generation Guatemalan-American who’s family came to America to start a new life. Raised by 2 nurses, he found a tremendous passion for helping patients. He attended The Johns Hopkins University where he majored in Molecular And Cellular Biology and minored in psychology.
Before starting medical school, he travelled to Costa Rica where he performed pediatric health screenings as well as Guatemala assisting in pediatric cataract surgery. Those experiences inspired him to pursue a career in ophthalmology.
He sought to attend an osteopathic medical program at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine on a mission to learn medicine from a wholistic approach, encompassing the patient’s mind, body, and spirit. In that time, he participated in another mission trip to Ecuador to perform health screenings and prescribe glasses. Graduating at the top of his class, he was the only student in two years to get into Ophthalmology.
He performed his transitional year as well as residency at Larkin Community Hospital in Miami, Florida. There he lead local initiatives with the Lions Club to provide free surgical services to uninsured patients in South Florida. He also led a mission trip to his home country of Guatemala to perform cataract and pterygium surgery.
He was chief of his residency program and took part in a global fellowship year at Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City Oklahoma. The fellowship focused on assisting the local underserved community as well as enhance his surgical and clinical skills in Cataracts, Glaucoma, Retinal Disease, Neurophthalmic examinations, Adult and Pediatric Strabismus, and Cosmetic/Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. The program was designed to meet the needs of underserved communities world-wide.
Today Dr. Malouf lives in Tampa with his partner of three years. This clinic has provided him with an avenue to invest all the experience he has had across the nation and around the globe and provide the best service for the local Tampa Community.
